Statistics and Graphics Index
This folder contains programs both useful for statistical analyses as well as graphics generation.
General Overview
here, you find a very quick overview of how an image can be edited/viewed in the CBIF cluster.
R -
this powerful statistical software package is a great open-source alternative to SAS. In addition to offering the standard statistical techniques, the fact that anybody can contribute to the R project gives rise to many specialized packages. Many researchers have written their own packages which, for example, deal with certain data analyses focused on phylogenetic or geographic investigations, which might be completely absent from commercial statistical software packages. Furthermore, R is a great program for graphics generation. The figures which can be made in R range from simple plots to complex multi-dimensional graphs.
GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) -
this image manipulation and graphics program is a very well developed alternative to the commercially known Photoshop software. The GIMP has pretty much all the necessary features for graphic design and image manipulation which you would find in many commercially available photo softwares. It is very useful for making figures and other graphics for publications, as well as recreational uses.
