Macintosh Software Installation for VNC
Note: All Macintosh instructions assume you are using version 10.x of the operating system (OSX).
Terminal Emulator: You will use this program to log into an NMSU computer and start the VNC server. For security purposes, the emulator must have the ability to do this through a secure shell (ssh). Fortunately, OSX provides the built-in "Terminal" program with this capability. Look for it in the Applications - Utilities folder.
VNC Client: There are several clients available, but the version of operating system you are using may limit your choice. For OSX 10.1, we recommend VNCDimension from http://www.mdimension.com/. At the homepage, click "Software," then choose "VNCDimension" from the Product list. Click and drag the disk image link, currently "VNCDimension-0.7.10.dmg" directly from the web page to your desktop to download. Double click the disk image icon to mount the file. Then double click the resulting disk icon to start the installer. Follow the installer directions, then clean up by moving the image and disk icons to the trash.
For OSX 10.2.8 and above, we recommend using the Chicken of the VNC client (yes, really). This is available from http://sourceforge.net/projects/cotvnc/. Follow the download links. The Safari browser will be able to automatically download and install the program.
